I set up Neuphi with Emi Iwatani to fill a perceived lack of groups of its kind in a field that is bursting with potential: the scientific study of mind. Since that time, the group has been able to sustain a small number of devotees who come to the meetings monthly and are highly engaged with the material. We hope to grow this small base in coming years to get more interaction, without losing either the sharp focus or interdisciplinary dialogue. This is my third year of organizing Neuphi, and I feel very positive about the speakers this year. Each of the speakers will present innovative research that cuts across the two disciplines of philosophy and neuroscience, which is what Neuphi is all about.
My academic insterests outside of Neuphi are in Philosophy of Science, in general, as well as Philosophy of Physics (particularly quantum physics), Applied Ethics (including medical ethics), and Perception. There are links below to more details of my academic life, including my educational history, papers that I have presented, my teaching experience, academic outreach, awards, and the graduate courses I have taken, as well as to my informal photo page on Flickr.
